How to get on to the 1st page of Google?
The single most important factor to get your page UP THERE – is great quality content – but it all begins with well-chosen keywords…
1) Do your homework before selecting your keywords.
Find out WHO your competitors are for a spot on the first page. If you cannot afford to throw as much money and time into those keywords – and believe me, they throw a great deal of that- try for a less competitive set of keywords.
Remember it is better to be found on a medium or low competitive keyword than to end up somewhere between page 80 and oblivion using a highly competitive one.
2) Choose your Domain name with your chosen keywords in mind.
If for example one of your priority keywords is ‘Home Alarm Systems’ try to get a Domain name such as AlarmSystems-Company.co.za or AlarmSystems.co.za – the jury is still out on this, but from our own experience – it does make a difference!
3) Create all your Website Page titles with your “Keyword set” in mind.
4) Repeat the keywords
Repeat your chosen keywords in the first paragraph, use it in the last paragraph on the page, then repeat it a couple of times in your written content. Watch out for keyword density; using it too much and Google will penalize you, use it too little and it will get lost. 3-5 repeats in 300 words should just about do it.
5) Highlight your main keyword phrase by making them bold or italic.
Organic SEO is not an exact science; Google changes its algorithms too often for that, but following these simple keyword tips should give you a good platform from which you can build on, well at least until the next big Google algorithm kicks in.
